小城之春的詩意描繪與鏡頭分析

這是我蠻喜歡的一堂課China on the screen
的功課,所以決心要好好整理曾經讓我頭痛的努力過的功課們。

With the lights slowly switching off, I still sit there recalling every
frame of the film. Kaisi’s last monologue surrounds around my ears, some
cool and bizarre actions emerge in front of my eyes and even I can’t
help thinking every fight contest in the film. An excellent film has a
kind of magic to guide your thinking to leap or move forward following
the trail of the movie. Wild Kingdom is such a case with a good shooting
perspective. Every speculator enables to feel its highlight no matter
how slowly the film rhythm will be and how inconspicuous the clashes of
characters are, and even though only being music, you will be
concentrated in it without time and other emotion to eat your cola and
popcorn. The essence of art is the pursuit of innovation, breakthrough
and do something special. People are tired of the traditional Chinese
films messing in the market, magic, metropolis, tragic or comedy. In
fact, only a few movies deserve its real reputation, the rest of the
most films will be submerged as time goes by. There is no denying that
Wild Kingdom which is directed by Han Yan is a fantastic masterpiece to
challenge traditional Chinese films. He shot what he thinks and blaze a
new trial for Chinese film. Excellent 3D- Experiencing film. The whole
movie is a real game which conveys the inspiration of the director to
let every speculator in the theater feel their simultaneous heartbeat
and nerve of every player in the film. An excellent 3D visual production
team added far-reaching coherence to the whole film and some special
meaning to the movie script instead of converting logically the movie
into a 3D mode for two eyes respectively. 3D shooting effects in this
film not only bring about a strong visual impact and real feeling of
scenes to the audience, but also enable speculators to remember the
reminiscent fragments. They can be able to feel the power of 3D and
experience every scene the same as the protagonists. Loyal to original
work but higher than it. Of the numerous adapted movies, Wild Kingdom is
a great masterpiece to catch my eyes. It was adapted from Fukumoto’s The
Gambling Apocalypse and perfectly inherited the depth and height of the
original, achieving a high degree of restoration of the contents and
scenes of the comics. This makes me, an anime fan, who can’t find any
controversy point. The reason why the adaption of Wild Kingdom is higher
than the original one lies in the shaping of characters and the
arrangement of scenes. The prominent change is the character styling of
Kaisi. As we all know, Kaisi in the original work shows us his ragged
clothed, messy hair, strange expression and a sharp chin. Those who love
watch Japanese anime will consider that this is a negative role or an
image of bully. This forges great contrast from a street bully to a
talent with amazing IQ and discreet mind in the process of last game.
However, it looks like a little bit controversy despite that the author
wishes to highlight that human can embrace infinite potential. The
adaptation of Han Yan seem to be appropriate at this point. The 40
minutes starting of Wild Kingdom firstly introduced his background. A
brilliant and piety Kaisi with higher education gradually got into a
poor life, the behind reason originates from the fact that he lost his
father when he was a little boy and took care of his serve mother by
himself without any economy. He was kind and simple with a warm heart,
so he would choose to save the stranger from the dark room after he was
finally deceived. Such starting features his noble and natural behavior.
On the basis of the original book, director Han Yan also added Liu
Qing’s role in order to give the film a light line of emotion, allowing
the presentation of the movie to be more rich and the character’s
emotions more abundant. Focusing on every corner As we all know, the
film industry is actually a detail-oriented industry. A brain-burning
reasoning film can be considered as the top movie requiring the highest
level of detail and logic, and Wild Kingdom received full praise. Kaisi
discreetly interprets every step and detail, and think about each
possibility in the final stressing environment. As mentioned before,
this is not exactly the same as the original, it is not accidental, it
is his good education and intelligence that conduces to his life. Liu
Qing, a childhood friend, said when the head nurse pulled and scolded
him, “Kaisi was the smartest in our yard”. when Li Jun chatted with him
in the game hall, Kaisi picked up a newspaper and played Sudoku. We can
see that the reason why he was cheated again and again was because of
his simplicity and kindness. When he bought a bracelet for Liu Qing, he
saw a poor old granny. At this point, he was bad-off but buying the
cheapest one. He gave the granny a fifty yuan instead of changes. It was
his goodness that he trusted the man, Zhang Jingkun, coming up with him
firstly, easily believed in Meng Xiaopang, saying have a family, and had
a faith in Li Jun who cheated his millions money. Such being the case,
this set of character conduces Kaisi to lead a group of people to escape
after his consciousness. In terms of details, I don’t know whether or
not you have ever paid attention to the flash shooting of Kaisi’s
passport. The birthday of Kaisi was November 16, 1987, and it had a
special meaning: the day was the birthday of director Han Yan. This
detail is enough to show that director Han Yan built this character
Kaisi as another himself. And Li Yifeng devoted himself fully to shaping
this role. In other words, both of them regard Kaisi as themselves to
perform so generating the perfect combination between Han Yan and Li Yi
feng. This character represents their spiritual cohesion. Rarely have
seen a director or an actor build a character so cannily. this is why
the role of Kaisi is so full of emotions and Wild Kingdom is so
fascinating. Second, the details of the special effects of Wild Kingdom
can also be compared with Hollywood’s top movie special effects. Each
character and scene is made by the director and the production team
through repeatedly trails, pondering, maps and dimming. Director Han Yan
is extremely “demanding” for details. He wants to vividly present the
scenes to the audience in front of the screen. Such a detail-oriented
film can achieve a great success. Han Yan chose chose Zhao Zhongxiang’s
familiar “Animal World” as the name, but the interpretation was actually
a group of people. This is not a normal logical setting, but this is the
essence of the whole movie. A group of desperate desperados boarded the
“Fate of Destiny” cruise ship. Some tried to change their lives, and
some tried to get more money. However, they do not know that at this
time they are like beasts in nature. The simple rule of the game is the
law of nature’s survival: basic requirements need to be followed, and
the rest is not required. Natural selection, survival of the fittest. In
order to be able to survive, everyone on the cruise ship is doing its
utmost, and the ugliness of human nature is vividly demonstrated at this
time. The simpleness of Zheng Kaci is obviously not suitable for the
animal world where the weak meat is strong, and he is deceitful. At a
time when everything seemed so desperate, the director finally allowed
Kaisi to be rescued, allowing the company to speak out in front of
everyone to express his inner monologue: to be a clown in life in the
animal world. I have already fighted, run the road and committed the
truth. The true intention of the director has finally drawn: do yourself
when downwind and not be afraid when upwind. In today’s impetuous
society, what is lacking is people who have always been naive and
kind-hearted; those who lack are those who can stand up to high pressure
and meditate; those who lack are those who are self-respecting
regardless of adversity. The heroes like Zheng Kaisi are the kind of
people that are lacking in today’s society. These appeals are the kind
of spirit that director Han Yan wants to convey to the audience through
movies. Speaking of this, I began to admire director Han Yan and
starring Li Yifeng. As a post-80s director, he not only inherited the
technology and essence of his predecessors, but also dared to shoot the
unprecedented topics and make a gamble with the Chinese film industry.
In two years, Han Yan finally completed his graduation wishes and
finally produced a “new” movie. The actor Li Yifeng, who has also been a
traffic star, has captured a lot of advertising television. With his
handsome appearance and excellent acting skills, he has won the favor of
numerous fans. However, he could realize his capability relying on his
handsome face while he chose depend on his real strength. After eight
months of precipitation, he repeatedly studied the character of the
original book. He performed the badness and genius-like deductions of
Kaisi, embracing his unique feelings, a bloody, filial piety, and a
simple kindness Kaisi come out. The image of Kaishi is not as handsome
as he used to be in the movie. This is undoubtedly a transformation of
Li Yifeng, also becoming his true representative. I feel excited after
watching this film, because I saw a good director who would like to keep
himself and keep his heart unchanged; I saw a good actor who would like
to precipitate the role and self-sublimation; I saw an excellent
production team who pursued every fine picture and detail. This is a
movie with a soul.

Spring in a Small town directed by Fei Mu, perfectly manifests Chinese
traditional poetic lyricism as well as a modernist cinematography, is
without doubt both an aesthetically Chinese film and a modernist work.
In this essay, first I would like to talk about and mise en scène as
well as some specific features that construct the atmosphere of
classical Chinese poem which is throughout the film. Then I would try to
analyze the modernist cinematography that makes the film not simply a
traditional one but a modernist work.

In Chinese traditional poem, poets usually make full use of the features
to express their own feelings rather than express directly. They are
good at decribing the features such as the moon, pillows, plants in
order to express their despair, love and etc. In Spring in a small town,
Fei Mu, known as ‘poet director’ does inherit this skill. In the
beginning of the film, the ruins of the city wall and the orchestral
music give audience a feeling of sad and dreary, which reflects Yuwen’s
suffering of suppression and lonelyness. As for the moon and orchid,
they are both the symbols of a strong persistent yearning or desire. We
can easily find these two features emerge frequently after Zhi Cheng
came and Yu Wen even sent Zhi Cheng an orchid, which shows her
adimiration for him. The orchid is not only a decoration but also
allegory of the suppressed love between Zhi Cheng and Yu Wen. The
environment and the features in the film play an important role in
expressing the feelings as well as some unsaid lines.

Second, Fei Mu constructs a classical feminity for the audience by the
role Yu Wen(Susan Daruvala,2007). Yu Wen acts as a elite female
following the paradigm performed by Mei Lanfang, which embodied Chinese
traditional aesthetic different from western dramatic realism.

Third, the Confucian moral message also embodied Chinese aesthetics. ‘Fa
hu qing, Zhi hu li’ is the basic acting criteria in this film according
to Fei Mu(Susan Daruvala,2007). Besides the stylized feminity and the
naturalness of the actors that can add power to the film, the evolution
of the relationship between Yu Wen and Zhi Cheng shows propriety
advocated by the Conficianism. Not matter how much they love each other,
a simple act of holding hands become transgressive. In the end, Zhi
Cheng leaves and Yu Wen decided to stay with Li Yan, which are due to
the limit of propriety of traditional Confucious moral strandard.

Fei Mu used to mention that he hopes that the audiences can mainly focus
on the psychological description rather than the plots. Therefore, the
modernist cinematograpic skills he used can make him achieve this aim
better. The voice-over used is a main characteristic of the film. It
makes the audiences feel closer to the protagonist and have a better
understanfing of the intimate part of her. The voice-over sometimes does
not match the picture and transcends the limit of space and time,
embodying the inner chaos Yu Wen is facing.
